| 2006-12-07 - 1:22 a.m. Wednesday -- Reading List. Just finished reading The End of Faith, by Sam Harris. It is rational and tightly packed. Lots of footnotes, and a bibliography that goes on and on forever. It took a long time to read; like I said, densely packed. I liked it a lot, although he writes some sentences that you have to read several times to figure out. It's nice to find a book whose author is a smart, articulate, and widely read scholar, and who agrees with you about a lot of stuff. After a lot of heavy long chapters, he finally arrives at Buddhist thought (various), not as religion but as philosophy. Ha! It's the story of my life. He also lays a trip on you to speak up bravely and clearly about being a more or less normal, everyday, rational human person with a normal, discriminating, 20th century brain. Who likes to consider evidence for what to believe. So the rest of my life is going to require more social bravery than I've needed before.
